Nourishing Body, Mind and Spirit

Our current game plan

It’s 5.5 weeks after the diagnosis.  I have read all that I can about the subject, especially in terms of alternative health treatments. I’ve summarized what I’ve learned here.

The truth is that it’s very depressing reading. Heartbreaking reading. But, it’s reading that I felt that I needed to do so that I could know everything there is to know. So that we can make the most informed choices about thing like medication and whether or not to vaccinate.

Of course, nothing really changed 5.5 weeks ago. My son was born with this genetic disorder.  We just have a name for it now. (It was a new genetic mutation, so he didn’t inherit it from either of us. A one in two million chance of happenning).

I believe in miracles. I believe that genetic disorders can be overcome. I believe in Spirit. I believe that on a soul’s level, my son chose this disorder. And on a soul’s level, my husband and I chose my son over all other souls to parent. I believe in things like Heilkunst and shamanic healing, both of which believe that things like genetic disorders can be transcended, can be healed.

In Verspoor and Smith’s book, Autism: The Journey Back, they discuss that although it’s not possible to use homeopathic medicine to alter genetic code, it is possible to correct “the distortions in the functioning of the genes in terms of their folding and unfolding, which takes place in a fluid environment” (p. 90). The sequential treatment of the chronic miasms (which occurs after the sequential treatment of the reverse timeline of traumas) is the part of the Heilkunst treatment which addresses the inherited part of disease.

In Alberto Villoldo’s book, Shaman, Healer, Sage, he discusses that when we heal the Luminous Energy Field (part of which is influenced by the genes), the physical body follows. “The Luminous Energy Field contains information that can kill us or heal us, in the same way that DNA encodes within its double helix the formulas for longevity as well as in inherited health conditions that plague us” (p. 55). “When we heal through the Illumination Process we change the… body by changing the fields that organize them. We heal the Luminous Energy Field, and the physical body follows” (p. 45). Both methods work on the level of the energetic field and is considered a higher level of healing than simply healing at the body level (which is the level that medicine works at). More about the five levels of healing here (Dr. Klinghardt’s original article is here).

Based on the reading that I’ve been doing, my son is already a miracle. His IgE levels (between 59,000 and 70,000) are ridiculously high. So high, that I’ve only read of a couple of accounts of individuals with IgE levels in that range (normal is considered 50-100; anything over 2,000 is considered hyper. Typical Job’s Syndrome individuals are in the range of 2,000 to 40,000. Maybe up to 50,000). Yet, my son is doing so well. We are definitely doing something right. I am strengthened and heartened by this.

What do we do now?

We have a great team behind us. When we returned, we consulted with his Heilkunst practitioner, his naturopath, his shamanic psychologist, my shamanic teacher, and new to the team: a Traditional Chinese Medical Doctor, who was a practicing Immunologist and Hematologist in China. The latter, is the one who recommended that we try cactus juice, which is supposed to be great for the immune system. And, of course, I also consulted with Spirit.

Through all of our consultations, I’ve learned that we are on the right track. We are not really changing much in terms of his treatment.

One of the most distressing things for me regarding the diagnosis is the recommendations that we start my son on lifelong preventative antibiotics and antifungals. That’s right — lifelong antibiotics and antifungals is the recommendation. That doesn’t make any sense to me. But, I’ve looked at the scientific literature and talked to individuals on support groups, and this seems to be the best course of treatment that the medical system can offer to individuals with Job’s Syndrome.

I’ve already mentioned that shortly after the diagnosis, we started my son on a daily antifungal and it has cleared up his persistent thrush and now his lips and mouth are less sore. I’m okay with him being on it. For now.

I was hoping to hold off on the preventative antiobiotics for as long as we could. But then, my son developed a gum abscess (abcesses are a common symptom of Job’s Syndrome). So then, our family dentist gave him a course of antibiotics.  The dentist said that the tooth will likely need to be pulled, but I guess we’ll deal with that once we meet with the pediatric dentist (who has a ridiculously long wait list as we only have two pediatric dentists in our province). We also started my son on a homeopathic remedy for gum abcesses.

I consider everything that occurs as potential messages from Spirit. And, even my husband mentioned that he wondered whether the gum abcess was also a sign from the universe / God that my son should start the preventative antibiotics. And so we did, a couple of days ago.

It was a difficult course of action for me, which is partially why I am writing this blog post. So that I can come to terms with this decision.

Why I am against using antibiotics:

  • Antibiotics mean anti-life. It will make the Heilkunst homeopathy (which I still believe can truly heal my son) more difficult to be effective.  (I’m hoping though since we’ve started it that the homeopathy can still be effective despite the use of antibiotics. Given that it is considered a higher level of healing than drugs, I assume this to be true).
  • It’s well known that the use of antibiotics can breed non-resistant strains of bacteria.
  • It’s not a cure; it’s a cover-up.
  • It’s killing all of my son’s good microflora that is necessary for a healthy GI tract every 12 hours. The use of probiotics once a day, although recommended, can’t possibly combat that.
  • If we use antibiotics, we will need to continue with antifungals because when we kill all of the good bacteria, it creates a great breeding ground for Candida, which causes and has caused a whole lot of other troubles (leaky gut and more food sensitivities).
  • Once we start the antibiotics, we can’t miss doses here and there (like we do with some of his other medications) to minimize his intake of antibiotics because that can really mess up his flora and also help to breed antiresistant bacteria. Once we start them, we really need to commit to it.
  • It’s one thing to start a course of antibiotics for 10 days, but for a lifetime!?

Why we have started using antibiotics:

  • A large part of the reason why my son’s IgE levels are so high is because his immune system can’t fight common staphylococcus (bacterial) infections on its own. My son’s immune system goes out of whack because of common, every day bacteria that is virtually everywhere and everyone has on their skin. My hope is that by using the antibiotics, my son’s IgE levels will go down. A scientific study has shown that IgE levels do decline with time and 26% of adults with Job’s syndrome have IgE levels within the normal range.
  • The preventative antibiotics seem to have been working for other individuals with Job’s Syndrome. It doesn’t completely stop infections, but it does seem to worsen the severity of the infections.
  • I journeyed to Spirit to ask for guidance about what to do regarding treatment and the answer that I got was to “take an integrative approach”.
  • When consulting with my shamanic healer, and when I asked her for her thoughts on this, she intuited that in the short term, the use of antibiotics will not be harmful. (On the other hand, she got an emphatic “no” to further vaccinations).
  • Our Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor  also agreed that if my son’s IgE levels are so high due to fighting staph, then he must be on antibiotics to help, so that his IgE levels can come down. Once his IgE levels come down, we can think about using natural “antibiotics” (like oil of oregano, etc.).
  • Our naturopath, who is generally balanced in her approach, helped us to come up with a game plan: continue with Heilkunst homeopathy and everything else we are doing, start the antifungals and antibiotics and give it a year. Then see how we are doing at that time and then potentially come up with another game plan. That way, just because we have started the antibiotics, it doesn’t mean that my son needs to be on them for the rest of his life.
  • On the good side of things, both of the antibiotic and antifungal dosages are preventative dosages (i.e., he is getting less than half of the normal dose of both of these medications).

My hope is that with this integrative approach (i.e., preventative antibiotics, preventative antifungals, continued Heilkunst (homeopathy), supplementation and energy work), that my son’s IgE levels will drop. Once my son’s IgE levels drop to a more manageable or normal level, my plan is to switch from the antibiotics and antifungals to natural antibiotics and antifungals (e.g., oil of oregano).

More good news that has come from my reading is that most individuals with Job’s Syndrome do not have a laundry list of allergies and sensitivities. Also, most individuals with Job’s Syndrome do not have asthma. These  are two things that we can expect to clear up as my son’s IgE levels decrease. Of course, we have already been finding (even before we started the medications) that my son’s asthma and food allergies and sensitivities have been healing (as a result of the Heilkunst treatment). So, we can expect this trend of healing to continue.

It does help for me to think of the current integrative approach  in terms of “our plan for now”. And we can change our plan as we go along. In the meantime, my son continues to do well. He is doing so well. And he will continue to do well. I just know it.

Update:

We are very seriously contemplating using oil of oregano instead of the antibiotic / antifungal.  Stay tuned!  If you have any experiences with using oil of oregano, let me know!

November 2011 – We aren’t using oil of oregano, but we are using miracle mineral solution, which is a “natural” antibiotic / antifungal. We’re still continuing with the prophylatic antibiotic and antifungal as well, until his IgE levels drop to below 2,000. His IgE levels have declined considerably, but we’re not quite there yet. Hopefully by next year!

  1. I will pray that all goes well, I’m sure the use of antibiotics scares you, I know it terrifies me but just like you I have had to use them on Alex. He had clostridia a few months ago, very very bad and his DAN recommended the use of Vancomycin. We were on it only 10 days, it killed the clostridia, but it did leave room for yeast to grow, so off to fight the yeast beast :(

You win some you loose some I guess, and one more thing, if you have decided to use the antibiotics I’m sure it’s for your sons well being, I truly believe our inner intuition is the best at helping us decide what to do for our children, if u felt the need to use them I’m sure you’re right.

Keep tongue great work, and thanks for sharing your Son’s story with the world! You and your family are truly inspiring!

  2. Thanks, Mother Warrior, for your encouragement. I also do strongly believe in the importance of our intuition to guide us.

  3. [...] dose of antibiotics, which is standard treatment for Job’s Syndrome (more about this here). Around the same time, he had a healing reaction likely from the Heilkunst (generally, healing [...]
