Apple juice “jello”
I’ve been wanting to make homemade apple juice “jello” for awhile. At a Christmas party, Moses tried some regular Jello and we were happy that he didn’t have a reaction to it (it’s great to know that he can now have some ”regular food” like Jello at parties). But, Jello contains a lot of extra ingredients and preservatives that I wouldn’t want to feed him regularly or at home (included butylated hydroxyanisole [BHA], adipic acid/fumaric acid, disodium phosphate, artificial colours and flavours, etc.).
We made homemade apple juice jello today. I found a recipe at YummyTummyCooking. It’s ridiculously simple.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups of 100% apple juice
1/2 cup of sliced strawberries (or other fruit — I used frozen strawberries and raspberries since that’s what I had — fresh fruit would have been way better)
1 envelope of gelatin (Knox brand, which sets 2 cups of liquid)
METHOD:
1. Heat up 1.5 cups of apple juice
2. Add 1/2 cup of cold apple juice to the 1.5 cups of hot apple juice and add gelatin stir until dissolved.
3. Add fruit to the bottom of your container and pour in the gelatin mixture
4. Refrigerate 2 hours or until firm
RESULT:
Moses loved it. I found it a bit too tart (probably because of the raspberries that I used). We’ll definitely make it again!
