My newest favourite book is Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents: Guiding your Children to Success and Fulfillment. I just recently picked it up from the library and I am planning to add it my personal collection (I very rarely purchase books, so this means this book is very special indeed).
In the book, Deepak Chopra provides suggestions on how to practice the seven spiritual laws as a family. He suggests practicing one of the seven laws as a family everyday. We’ve started to put it into action.
For example, one of the laws is about giving. We practiced this on Friday when A.’s friend came over to celebrate his birthday. We made a big deal about A. giving a present to his friend, and he did seem genuinely happy to share joy in giving to his friend.
At the end of the day, when we were giving thanks about the day, I mentioned that I was thankful that our friends came over for dinner and what a great time that we had. When I asked A. what he was thankful for, he said, “I’m thankful that I gave”.
As I mentioned, I love the book as I am attempting to live the seven spiritual laws in my own life and it gave me some ideas on how to bring intention and awareness to them them as a family.
