Ozonated oils for infections

My Heilkunstler mentioned something that might help Moses’ MRSA infections: ozonated sunflower oil. Ozone damages bacterial nucleic acids, and a scientific study has found it to be effective against MRSA as well. Woot woot!

Ozone has these effects on the body:

1. Ozone stimulates the production of white blood cells. These cells protect the body from viruses, bacteria, fungi, and cancer.

2. Interferon levels are significantly increased. They inhibit viral replication and control of phagocytic cells that engulf and kill pathogens and abnormal cells.

3. Ozone stimulates the production of Tumor Necrosis Factor. TNF is produced by the body when a tumor is growing.

4. Ozone stimulates the secretion of IL-2. Interluekin-2 is one of the cornerstones of the immune system.

5. Ozone kills most bacteria at low concentrations..

6. Ozone is effective against all types of fungi..

7. Ozone fights viruses in a variety of ways.

8. Ozone is antineoplastic.

9. Ozone oxidizes arterial plaque.

10. Ozone increases the flexibility and elasticity of red blood cells, increasing oxygen levels.

11. Ozone accelerates the Citric Acid Cycle.

12. Ozone makes the anti-oxidant enzyme system more efficient.

13. Ozone degrades petrochemicals.

Ozonated oils can be used to treat:

Herpes simplex/zoster
Measles Infections
Viral Pneumonia
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Raynauds Disease
Multiple Sclerosis
Wound Infections
Septicemia (staph, strep, pneumococcus)
Recurrent skin infections (furunculosis)
Necrotizing infections
Inactivation of Toxins
Fungal/Yeast Infection
Chronic Fatigue
Lower back
Retinitis Pigmentosa
Primary Glaucoma
Optic Nervy Dysfunction
Macular Degeneration
Non-healing wounds
Severe Acne
Recurrent skin infections (furunculosis)
Heart conditions
Peripheral vascular disease
Vascular headaches
Deep Vein Thrombosis
Diabetic Ulcers

Purchasing ozonated oils

I decided to order it from PurO3. There’s quite a lot of information on their website if you want to check it out. The prices and the shipping costs were reasonable ($35US). There were a number of oils to choose from, and decided on the ozonated sunflower oil and also ordered a small sample of the ozonated olive oil, which is less ozonated than the sunflower oil, but has a more mild scent.

January 21, 2017: Well, unfortunately, AJ hates the smell (and I don’t really like it either), so I don’t think we’ll be able to use this. ugh. The unscented ozonated sunflower oil is very strong. The ozonated olive oil is not as strong, but still gross. ugh.

March 21, 2017: AJ let me put the ozonated olive oil on an abscess on his armpit and 2 days later it spontaneously burst. I continued to put the oil on his abscess for ~3 more days until it was just about completely gone. Going forward, the plan will be to use the ozonated olive oil on any other abscesses that may appear. Hopefully, this will be the end of the abscesses.

My baseline before Thrive

Friends, I’m starting a new supplement that a dear friend recommended. She found that this new supplement (or group of supplements) helped her energy levels, mental clarity, her emotional well being and decreased her symptoms related to PMS (a huge thing for her).

Since I’m going to be starting a new fulltime job next week, which will involve a 50 minute commute on transit, and earlier mornings than I’m used to, I’ve been concerned about my energy levels.

I thought that I’d jot down some notes about my baseline, so that I can see if the new supplement (which is quite $$) has an effect:

  • energy levels are okay, but I typically have a mid-day slump;
  • I typically crave chocolate during the mid-day and at night (maybe my body looking to increase energy);
  • I typically crave potato chips at night;
  • It’s hard for me to wake up in the morning;
  • dark circles under eyes;
  • chronic neck and shoulder tension that has been there for years;
  • I haven’t been making time to consistently exercise, despite the fact that I have time to do it. I’ve been very sporadically practicing yoga for 20 minutes a day, and go for occasional walks;
  • rashes on my belly and left inner elbow due to detoxing with homeopathy;
  • my frame of mind is generally positive, but I still have a low level of anxiety that runs in the background; and
  • I think I could ideally lose approx. 5-10 lbs.

My plan is to use the supplement at a half dose because I’m frugal and I generally take most supplements at a half dose because I tend to be sensitive (my naturopath says that I’m a half dose kind of gal). My friend found a difference at a half dose, and I hope I will as well!

I hope to have more consistent and higher energy levels and to have more mental clarity. I want to be at the top of my game for my new job, and also still have energy for the family. And energy to exercise. I’m going to stop the current supplements that I have been using (but will continue with homeopathy), and see how I do. I’ll report back in a month’s time.

Visit with our naturopath – December 2015

As I mentioned in this post, we recently had a visit with Moses’ naturopath, who we love.

Since Moses doesn’t see her very often (every 6-12 months), she has a long view on Moses’ healing and she also knows where he started from since we started seeing her when Moses was 3 years old.

I always find it’s a good “check-in” and helps me to affirm that we’re on the right track.

The main things that came out of this appointment include the following:

  • Overall, Moses is doing well!
  • We’ll consult with Moses’ dentist about her thoughts on Doxycycline;
  • I’m going to start Moses back on CD baths (perhaps it’ll help with the recurrent abscesses);
  • I’ll start using the sublingual vitamin B with Moses (something that his Heilkunstler suggested, but Moses doesn’t like the taste, so I got out of the habit of doing); and
  • we’ll start him on a good multi-mineral supplement (Genestra Colloidal MultiMins Liquid). (The MultiMins Liquid is sweet and tastes like a melted orange popsicle, but for some reason, Moses doesn’t like the taste. ugh).

She thought the vitamin B might help with the chronic cracks that Moses has in the corners of his lips.

I’m thinking the CD baths might help with the recurrent abscesses. We got out of the habitat of doing so because truthfully, we’ve been doing diluted bleach baths (as per the recommendations of Moses’ dermatologist and immunologist), but I think the CD baths would be more effective for his abscesses. Unfortunately, I was too enthusiastic on the CD bath yesterday, and today, on Christmas eve, Moses isn’t feeling well (I think a die-off response to yesterday’s CD bath*). It’s a good reminder for me that slow and steady wins the race. ugh!

* Last year, Moses routinely had 20 drops of CD in his bath. Yesterday, I started with 10 drops, and then he had a second bath with 12 drops. This was evidently too much to start with.

Hydrasense to clear out the nasal passages

This week we started using HydraSense to clear out Moses’ nasal passages. It’s kind of like using a neti-pot. DH is a big fan of “neti”-ing. He typically purchases a store brand version to do so. About a decade ago, I used a neti-pot regularly, but haven’t done so for a long time.

We’re using the Medium Stream Daily Nasal Care.  It can be  used for children as young as 2 years old, so it’s very, very gentle.

It contains: isotonic, undiluted, sterile, 100% natural-source desalinated sea water, with more than 70 trace elements and minerals naturally-occurring in sea water, and does not contain preservatives.

Moses was apprehensive about trying it at first, but now, he really loves it! I think he probably can feel a real difference in getting some of the allergens out of his nostrils.

We started using it because it seemed like Moses was starting to get flu-like symptoms and an increase in congestion (nasal and chest). Possibly because of the start of school? His asthma was totally under control all summer (he rarely needed his Ventolin puffer) and now in the last week, he’s been needing his Ventolin puffer 6+ times a day.  Moses is attending a newly built school and there is still a lot of construction going on adjacent to the school and an addition to the gym, so I wonder if he’s reacting to construction dust and also off-gassing from the new construction….

In any case, I feel that the HydraSense is helping to bring relief to his nasal congestion. Yesterday, he asked to use it three times. As soon as he arrived home from school, he asked to use it, so that’s a great sign that it’s helping. After the second round of using it after school, he was feeling much better.

I wish we had known about HydraSense earlier because DH and I have been talking for years about how great it would be if we could teach Moses how to neti, but we didn’t think he would be up to the more “intense” version of neti-ing that DH does.

Benefits of using using HydraSense (according to their website):

  • Cleanses excessive mucus accumulation in congested nasal cavities and passages.
  • Reduces excessive dryness due to dust or dry air.
  • Reduces the duration of cold symptoms, the occurrence of complications such as sinusitis, medication use and the number of sick days.

They also have special formulations for allergies and congestion relief.

I think we’ll continue to use HydraSense (as opposed to using a neti-pot) because it’s simple to use, easy to control the flow and very gentle.

The healing round table

As Lissa Rankin, MD, puts it…

“If you’re a patient who has incorporated complementary and alternative medicine into your health care regimen, you may have bumped up against some resistance on both sides of the healing fence. Your doctor may think your homeopath is a total quack selling snake oil, and your homeopath may think your doctor is a big thug, thwacking his pharmaceutical hammer at anything that moves.

Your doctor may insist that you stop all of your herbs, cancel your acupuncture appointment, and ditch the flower essences that were lovingly prepared for you.

On the flip side, your complementary and alternative medicine providers may poo poo traditional Western treatments that you choose to pursue.”

As you know, I have experienced both sides of this (i.e., doctors who have resistance to alternative medicines, and alternative medicine practitioners who do not support traditional western treatments). It has been soooooooo challenging trying to navigate the differing opinions and try to make wise choices on how to heal Moses when I can’t openly talk about the alternative medicines that we are using with our medical doctors, and also when our alternative health care practitioners make me feel guilty for some of our medical choices (like having Moses on a prophylatic antibiotic).

It’s like a breath of fresh air when we find medical doctors who are open minded enough to hear about essential oils, or alternative health care practitioners who do not vilify the medical system. This is why I love our naturopathic doctor who bridges the worlds of some of our other alternative health care practitioners who feel that the allopathic model and the natural healing model both have their place.

A deep inner part of me has whispered to me all along that Moses needs an integrative approach, and truthfully, DH and I have between us forged an integrative approach in Moses’ care. As you know, I have been a strong voice for natural healing and alternative approaches and DH has been a strong voice for the allopathic (traditional medical model) for healing, but I have found that as I heal my own relationship with the medical system and have tried to forgive the medical system, DH and I have been able to meet more readily in the middle.

As I have healed my own relationship with the medical health care system, I have found my relationship with the medical system has changed.  We now have more mutual respect on all sides. As many of my friends have reminded me, we all have the same vision for Moses – a vision of healing.

In my vision, there is no hierarchy between doctors and other health care providers, whether they be nurses, scrub techs, or alternative health care providers like naturopaths, Chinese medicine doctors, acupuncturists, homeopaths, Reiki healers, herbalists, or faith healers. Instead, the patient is in charge of choosing who sits at the “healing round table,” where everyone is equal and the person with the seat of honor – and the most power – is the patient.

In my vision, petty competitions, dismissive name-calling, and contradictory messages delivered to patients are replaced with a sense of mutual respect for what everyone brings to the table, collaboration, and a commitment to the highest good for the patient, free of ego or judgment.” – Lissa Rankin, MD

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!

I love Lissa Rankin and I love the idea of a healing round table. My dear friend, Cheryl, mentioned this concept to to me a few weeks ago and I have found this idea of a healing round table to be so healing and so loving. I’d encourage you to read more about Lissa Rankin’s vision to heal health care here and more about the idea of a healing round table here.

I love the idea of all practitioners being equal and the patient is in charge of choosing who sits at the healing round table.

Moses has quite an extensive healing round table and I have grown to love and appreciate all who have a seat at his table.

Dr. Schulze’s herbs

I had a consult with our karmic healer last night and she suggested yet again Dr. Schulze’s herbs. She has told me story after story of how Dr. Schulze herbs, in combination with her work has helped people with cancer, IBS, etc.

She’s mentioned them since our first consultation, but I’d been reluctant to try them because:

  • DH isn’t on board;
  • palatability issues – I wasn’t sure if I could get Moses to take herbs / tinctures;
  • we’ve tried so many things (including many herbs and supplements) – and a lot of times, Moses breaks out when we try a new supplement or we find no noticeable effect; and
  • I’m just skeptical (and also tired) of trying new things…

But, after talking with the karmic healer last night, I decided to reconsider. Racquel speaks very highly of these herbs and feels that we are getting on top of the “spiritual issues” behind Moses’ flare ups, but we need to do a better job of supporting his body physically.

So…. I went ahead and watched a few of Dr. Schulze’s videos and decided to give it a try and ordered the following:

  • Superfood ($40)Spirulina Algae, Blue-Green Algae, Chlorella Broken-Cell Algae, Barley, Alfalfa & Wheat Grasses, Purple Dulse Seaweed, Beet Root, Spinach Leaf, Acerola Cherry, Rose Hips, Orange & Lemon Peels & Palm Fruit in a base of Dr. Schulze’s Proprietary Non-Fermentable Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Yeast (it’s vegan and gluten-free)
    • whole food, herbal, vitamin and mineral product
    • Blasts every cell in your body with nutrient-rich organic vitamins and minerals to give you more energy than ever before
    • Nature’s high-octane super-nutrition that assimilates  in seconds
    • Standard dose is 2 tablespoons (30 mL)  in the morning; since Moses is 50 lbs, he would start with 10 mL (2 teaspoons).

(I haven’t quite decided between Superfood and Superfood 100 for Kids — I think I’m going to go with the Superfood 100 for Kids since I’ve read that the Superfood powder is very unpalatable. The Superfood powder is really the best for individuals who are sick / immune-compromised, but I’m not convinced that I’ll be able to convince Moses to take it).

  • Superfood 100 for Kids ($24)- Acerola Cherry, Palm Fruit, Spirulina Algae, Blue-Green Algae, Chlorella Broken-Cell Algae, Barley Grass, Alfalfa Grass, Wheat Grass, Purple Dulse Seaweed, Rose Hips, Lemon Peel, Orange Peel, Beet Root, Spinach Leaf, in a base of Dr. Schulze’s Proprietary Non-Fermentable Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Yeast
    • watch a video about it here.
  • Intestinal formula #3 (i.e., for children) ($22) – Senna Leaf & Pod, Cascara Sagrada Aged Bark, Anise Seed, Clove Bud, Tangerine Oil, California Fig Concentrate
    • Promotes regular or healthy bowel movements.
    • This is a milder formula of Intestinal Formula #1 (it’s supposed to be better tasting).
    • Liquid format.
    • Start with 1 capful at night (for an adult); therefore, Moses would start at 1/3 of a capful, given that he is 50 lbs.
  • Children’s echinacea ($22) – Echinacea Angustifolia Root, Echinacea Purpurea Seed
    • strengthens immune system
    • Standard dosage is 2 droppers 3 times per day (i.e., 6 per day); for Moses, his dosage would be 2 droppers per day since he is 50 lbs.

Tips on getting children to take the supplements:

  • Consider mixing 50% herbal supplement with 50% maple syrup,  putting it in shakes, grape juice or apple juice. (More tips by Dr. Schulze here).
  • If you are concerned about alcohol in the tincture, then:  you can place the tincture in a cup, pour boiling water into the cup, and the alcohol will evaporate in seconds.
  • Childhood dosages: take the child’s weight and divide by 150.
  • Common dosage is 2 droppers 3 times per day (i.e., 6 per day); for Moses, since he is around 50 lbs, his dosage would be 2 droppers per day here.

Some of Dr. Schulze’s videos or blog posts

  • children’s colds, ear infections and childhood dosages here.
  • immune boosting here.
  • preventing childhood colds and flus here (he recommends Echinacea Plus and Cold & Flu Herbal “SHOT”)
  • a child’s eczema was helped with the superfood powder and the intestinal formula #2 – more info here.  This boy sounds like Moses “He has flax oil, fish oil, and probiotics every morning and is gluten and dairy free. I have tried every oil, moisturizer, bath product, petroleum jelly, going to the pool to get chlorine on his skin, bleach in his bath water, making sure he gets enough sun, you name it! We have been to the doctor several times so he could have steroids and ointment that only worked for a week or so then it came back with a vengeance.”

Intestinal formulas #1 vs. #2.

  • Dr. Schulze has stated that his “Intestinal Formula #1 will over time strengthen the walls of the small intestine, destroy Candida overgrowth, destroy and expel intestinal parasites and relieve gas and cramps, since “Leaky Gut Syndrome” is a result of a thinning of the small intestine, this may help. He also states that his “Intestinal Formula #2 will draw out old fecal matter off the walls of the colon and out of bowel pockets. It will also draw out poisons, toxins, heavy metals and remove radioactive materials. It will also remove over 2,000 known chemicals and pharmaceutical residues.

Erin’s comment about Dr. Schulze’s supplements helping her son’s eczema (from here).

  • We cleared up 90% of his eczema through using different supplements at age 2 and those literally made him clear up within a week. It was REMARKABLE….he used to scratch all over his body until he bled…  I know it is going to sound crazy but the thing that worked for us was Dr. Schulze Super Food Vitamins and at night giving him his Formula 2 product (lots of activated charcoal and other herbs etc). The taste is STRONG but if you get them used to it young they never know the difference but it is also available in capsule form. My husband and I both take his vitamins in capsule form. The transformation was so remarkable (I walked around showing family members his back that used to be scratched anywhere my child could reach that was cleared up within a week) that I actually sent a testimonial in to Dr. S and he published it. He is really unconventional but it is what worked and he explained that it is probably some sort of nutrient deficiency in my son that was causing the eczema. My child had to be covered from birth to age 2 in a onsie (like the LONG JOHN onsies) to keep him from scratching til he bled all over. We tried the steroid creams the doctors gave us for flare ups but he could only get that once or twice a year. He does have flare ups, like when the weather changes and things start blooming etc but nothing and I mean NOTHING like what we dealt with the first 2 years of life.

Dr. Schultz’s “Minimum Entry Requirements”

  • Dr. Schulze’s “minimum entry requirements” – this is what he recommends for all of his patients within the first month, and these minimum entry requirements alone create healing for 90% of his patients.
  • 1 – Nutrition – Superfood
  • 2 – Digestive system (getting colon clean) –  Intestinal formula
  • 3 – exercise and sweat – energy shot is good for extra energy; Deep Tissue is good for sore muscles.
  • 4 – Immune support – Echinacea
  • 5 – detoxification – in 3rd or 4th week: 5 day detox (e.g., 5 day bowel detox, 5 day kidney detox or 5 day liver detox).
  • 6 – attitude – use positive affirmations

Shipping to Canada

    • Yikes – shipping to Canada is expensive!
    • International Shipping Charges: $32.00 to order the 3 items that I mentioned above (the same shipping costs regardless of the type of Superfood ordered).
    • Taxes and duties are NOT included in the total.  All of Dr. Schulze’s products are shipped via FedEx International Economy.  They do no offer international shipping via any other carriers.
    • Another person says that they paid US$52 for an order that weighed 4 pounds, and then paid Canadian customs, so paid over $100 for custom and shipping. Yikes!
    • I figured a way around it – I’m going to get them to ship the products to a friend who lives in the US, and then she will ship it to me by USPS. It cost $13.75 to ship that package to me via USPS, but will take 3 weeks to get to me. (It took a long time to get to me – almost a month from the time that I ordered it). But I did save a lot of money!

Places to order Dr. Schulze’s products in Canada:

  • Biovea sells Superfood ($51.40)  and there’s free shipping for orders over $69, but they don’t sell any other Dr. Schulze’s products.

Dr. Christopher’s products

  • Some Canadians choose to purchase Dr. Christopher’s products (e.g., from Herbs First) given the expense of shipping Dr. Schulze’s products to Canada.

Other Superfoods (not official Dr. Schulze).

  • Ozark Herbal superfood here.

I’ll keep you posted on how things go. I’m curious if any of you have used Dr. Schulze’s herbs and, if so, what your experience has been.

Parasites cycling with the moon

A couple of months ago, my friend, Dante’s mom at Boy Connected, asked me if I had noticed whether Moses’ symptoms get worse around the full moon.  hmmm…. I hadn’t noticed, but I hadn’t really looked for a connection.

The reason that she asked was because often symptoms can get worse around the full moon because of increased parasitic activity (it’s parasite breeding time). ewwww….  (This is why Dr. Kalcker’s parasite protocol [related to Kerri’s protocol] starts 3 days before the full moon and continues to the waning moon [i.e., a total of 18 days]).

Well now that I’ve been looking for a potential connection, I have noticed that for the past 2 months (June and July), Moses has had a night terror only once per month and both times, the night terror occurred exactly 3 days before the full moon. I did a quick google search and some have said that night terrors can be related to parasites and can increase around the full moon. hmmmmm……

Looking back at my notes:

In March, Moses had 2 night terrors 5 days before the full moon, and 2 new abscesses on the day after the full moon.

In April, Moses had a new abscess a day after the full moon.

In May, Moses was sick at home a couple of days after the full moon.

hmmmm…. maybe there’s something to this full moon thing.

There are a wide range of symptoms that can be associated with parasites (read more here) and Moses has a number of them (of course a number of these symptoms are also related to his diagnosis) but the fact that he has a compromised immune system means that his system is also susceptible to becoming infected by parasites.

“90% of the world population is infected with one or more parasites in their body, being able to coexist in the same host up to five different types. The danger comes when the balance is upset, within the host, skyrocketing the number of parasites and the host starting to show signs of serious illness and even, in some cases, death. Parasitic infections caused by parasitic worms do not always cause disease in man, a number of carriers has been found which are fully healthy. Parasites are silent murderers claiming  unsuspecting victims living in a world that does not even imagine they exist. Doctors in Western Europe and the U.S. do not contemplate the possibility that we may be infected, but with phenomena like the immigration of people across continents, the problem is much more common than anyone can imagine and often parasites are causing many of the rare diseases, or other such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia or arthritis that are causing so much damage lately in our communities.” – Dr. Kalcker, source

I’m not really sure what to do with this information. DH does not believe that parasites are a problem and Dr. Kalcker’s parasite protocol involves a number of supplements (and also enemas), and I can’t get buy-in from DH or Moses for this protocol.  During our recent consultation with our naturopath, she didn’t think we needed to go this route, and I was happy to let it go for now.

I’ve been researching essential oils that are good for parasites. Since Moses isn’t taking essential oils internally, I will put oregano, melaleuca, lemon and a protective blend on his belly and on the bottoms of his feet during this same time.

August 17, 2014: A couple of days ago was the full moon and there was no major or obvious effects of the full moon. But, he did wet his bed (something that NEVER happens) three days before the full moon and an abscess spontaneously burst on that same night. I did a quick google search and pinworms can be related to bed wetting (a scientific paper documented a case study here), so it does give me something to think about.

September 10, 2014 – Moses had a night terror 2 days after the “super moon” / “harvest moon” (which is also 4 days after general anesthesia to drain 8 abscesses). He also had a night terror a couple of weeks ago.

October 10, 2014 – Moses had 2 night terrors 2 days after the full moon.

November 6, 2014 – Moses did not have any night terrors around this full moon. Woot woot!

December 5, 2014 – Moses had a night terror the night before the full moon (full moon = Dec 6).

December 25, 2014 – Moses had a night terror 3 days after the new moon (and 5 days after general anesthesia). It also may be related to a cold that he was developing, too much sugar on Christmas and not enough sleep.

January 6, 2015 – Moses had a night terror on the full moon.

January 10, 2015 – Moses had a 2nd night terror, 4 days after the full moon. He also was dosed a Tuberculinum powder at 50M today, so perhaps it was also related to that.

January 18, 2015 – Moses had a night terror, 2 days before the new moon.

February 3, 2015 – Moses did not have a night terror around this month’s full moon. Yay!!!!!!!!!

February 10, 2015 – Moses had a night terror (one week after the full moon, so had nothing to do with the full moon). It was probably related to his homeopathic clearing of the Ringworm chronic miasm.

March 15, 2015 – Again, Moses did not have a night terror around this month’s full moon (March 5). Woo hoo!  He has officially been night terror-free for over a month!

March 24, 2015 – Night terror on the night we started clearing the Medhorrhinum chronic miasm.

June 7, 2015 – Moses has been night-terror free for 2.5 months now!

June 17, 2015 – Moses had a night terror on the day after the new moon (5 days after starting this month’s round of clearing).

June 19, 2015 – Moses had a HUUUGE night terror, 2 days after the new moon. I think it’s related to the homeopathic clearing.

June 27, 2015 – Night terror.

July 10, 2015 – Another night terror. None of the last 3 night terrors seemed to be related to the phases of the moon.

July 28, 2015 – Night terror on the first night back in our home after a quick 2-day road trip. Three days before the full moon.

August 4, 2015 – Night terror (4 days after the full moon).

August 29, 2015 – Night terror one day before the full moon, but also one night after starting on new homeopathic droppers.

September 6, 2015 – Night terror (same day that he received a karmic healing). Not related to moon cycle.

Sept 20, 2015 – Night terror 3 days after starting new remedies. Not related to the moon cycle.

Oct 2015 – Night terror a couple of days after starting new remedies.

November 14, 2015 – Night terror 2 days after starting new remedies.

Visit with our naturopath – July 2014

I know that I’ve said this before, but I love our naturopath! Love her.

We see her every 6 months or so, and  have been seeing her since Moses was 3 years old, so she has seen him come a long, long way and remembers how we struggled in those early days. She has also witnessed us try so many different modalities to heal Moses. She has always been an impartial sounding board for many modalities and has often acted as a marriage counsellor for DH and I as we have struggled to find a balance in which modalities to use.

Both DH and I respect her equally. And Moses likes her because she has toys in her office. 🙂

Read about our last session here.

I had a session for me with our naturopath last week, and as always, I had a good cry in her office. I just about always cry in her presence as she holds such a  sweet space and listens so compassionately. I feel very safe in her presence and I hold so much as I have navigate Moses’ various health issues and so many emotions associated with it.

As I mentioned in my last post, it feels like our family has had huge breakthrough. I feel that EFT is a big part of it. Maybe it’s also related to the last huge session that we had with our karmic healer three weeks ago. In any case, it feels like something major has shifted.

During Moses’ session, I asked Kathleen for her thoughts about a good natural antimicrobial that we can eventually use to replace Moses’ prophylactic antibiotic. She had three suggestions:

    • CD (which we are using, just 2 drops in 8 oz of water a day, but he only gets ~3-4 doses a day, so he probably is only getting 1 drop a day). He is also getting 2-3 CD baths a week (~23 drops). She is happy with this and doesn’t think that we should change much given that even at this low dosage, it has seemed to have increased his coughing (which I think means is cleaning out the junk in his lungs).
    • Genestra Berberis formula – 1 capsule twice a day between meals; or
    • Genestra Black walnut combo tincture – 15 drops twice a day (but since Moses is allergic to tree nuts, this really isn’t an option).

Overall, she doesn’t feel that we should change anything at the moment – she thinks we should just stay the course and keep things steady for now. We are going to heed her advice and keep Moses on his prophylactic antibiotic for now and consider the Genestra Berberis formula for a possibility for the future.

She recommended considering castor oil abdominal massages  as it’s a gentle cleanse and gets the lymph system working, but this is more of a treatment that would be good for starting in the fall / winter.

She recommended trying a Vitamin C topical ointment for his ears, which are very cracked and dry.

She also recommended UMAC liquid, which is a phytoplankton and a great source of antioxidants and micronutrients. I am considering trying this, but CD is not effective with antioxidants, so I’ll need to decide which is more important.

Currently, Moses’ tongue looks okay from an iron and a Vitamin B perspective, but she said that we should considered re-starting the Vitamin B supplement in the fall. (We stopped Vitamin B since Kerri doesn’t recommend it as it feeds parasites).

As you know, I’ve been very interested in Kerri’s protocol, but have decided not to implement it fully at the moment. I’ll just continue to administer CD as I have been, and not push it beyond that. I discussed with our naturopath whether she thought enemas would help Moses and she thought that we should just let Moses have a good summer and not complicate things. I’m going to heed that advice. It makes sense given that Moses is doing so well and neither DH nor Moses were on board with starting them.

I had started CD drops myself and got up to 12 drops a day (maximum dose for a “healthy” adult would be considered 24 drops a day), but truthfully, it’s so gross tasting that I couldn’t get beyond 12 drops a day. I found that I was bringing up a lot of phlegm when on the CD. I think it was clearing out mucous in my system, but as of yesterday, I decided to stop and let myself get back on my normal supplements (vitamins / minerals, antioxidants and omega oils). (I had to stop my supplements since CD isn’t effective with antioxidants). I was on CD for a month. Perhaps I’ll go back on CD every once in while, but for now, it feels right to stop.

In any case, I love our naturopath because I feel that she helps to keep things simple and sees the big picture. She basically recommended that we have a fun summer! Enjoy ourselves. And let Moses have fun.

So be it!

We’ve had a great weekend so far – a visit with a friend last night, farmer’s market this morning, visit to the beach this afternoon and a bike ride tonight.

Here’s to a fun and healthy summer!!!

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

It feels like we’ve had a major breakthrough.

A couple of weeks ago, my mother-in-law gave me the book, The Tapping Solution by Nick Ortner.

I’d seen this title on several occasions and noticed that it was recommended by a number of practitioners and authors that I respect. I figured that the book was about emotional freedom technique (EFT), but I hadn’t bothered to find out more or why people were so excited about it.

I’d first learned about EFT when Moses was one year old and I had liked it. When Moses was 3 years old, I started using it again and I wrote this:

I started using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which is a technique that I used on myself a couple of years ago and had found that it helped release emotional charges on issues, but had gotten out of the habit of using. When I was at my emotional wits’ end a few days ago, I started using this technique and since then I’ve felt more centred, at peace, grounded. After the first night of using the technique, I actually had a dream that Moses and my emotional charges were no longer “plugging into each other” because they had been diffused.

I think a lot of what was happening was that my “emotional charge” was affecting Moses’ emotions and we both were setting each other off. I knew that was happening, but I didn’t know how to “diffuse the charge”.  That’s where EFT came in to help.

But, I got out of the habit of using it when I started getting interested in other energy healing modalities.

When my mother-in-law presented me with this book a couple of weeks ago, it felt like a big sign! I started using it right away and found that I felt better. I’ve been using it to help with my stress with work, my stress about Moses’ health-related issues, and have also been using it to heal some very deep childhood traumas.

I feel very optimistic about the power of EFT. I love how it’s so simple to use and quick. I have definitely found that my work-related stress has diminished since I started using EFT, and overall, I’ve been feeling more balanced and at ease.

A friend of mine has problems with recurrent migraines and I taught her how to tap and within one round, she was surprised that the pain had subsided. By the second round, she felt fine! She tried it again, the next day and again, it helped. On the third night, she didn’t have a migraine, but decided to tap anyway, and she told me that she felt so good, her chronic back pain felt better! Today, when I talked to her, she told me that she was having trouble sleeping, so she decided to tap and mid-way through a round of tapping, she fell asleep!

I’ve been using it with Moses twice a day, and unlike most modalities, he is very open to using it. I have noticed how he completely relaxes when I do it. A couple of nights ago, he had a bad sleep and we tapped on it, and he told me in a surprised voice, “You know, mom, I really think this is helping. I feel better.” He has been helping me to come up with ideas on what he wants to tap on (e.g., stress about day camp, his diagnosis, his bumps).

Within 9 days of starting EFT, Moses had four abscesses spontaneously drain and one abscess resolved itself! Prior to starting EFT, Moses’ surgeon was discussing the possibility of needing to use general anaesthesia to deal with them all.

We saw his surgeon earlier this week and he considers everything resolved!  We don’t need to see his surgeon every week anymore, and our next appointment is in a month’s time.  So amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Moses still has some scar tissue in one place that will hopefully continue to heal).

I’m feeling very optimistic that we are on the right track and feeling soooo happy.

If you want to learn more about EFT:

  • I love Nick Ortner’s book, The Tapping Solution.
  • Gary Craig, the person who developed EFT has a great EFT tutorial here.
  • I love what Lissa Rankin says about EFT here.
  • Nick Ortner has a great online video about how to use EFT here.
  • Dr. Mercola has a tutorial about EFT here.
  • The meaning behind each of the EFT points with respect to acupuncture points here and here.
  • Tips on surrogate tapping here.
  • EFT for allergies here.

What’s great about EFT is that it’s an evidence-based practice and there are actually a number of scientific papers that have supported that fact that it works.

I’m so excited about EFT!!!!

Black tourmaline for protection

I had a  recent consultation with my naturopath and given the pattern that Moses and I  have been going through, she suggested that I consider using crystals to help with boundaries and protection. She didn’t suggest any crystals in particular, but she planted a seed, and it felt right, so I started to search for a crystal that may help.

I consulted with a few sources (websites, friends and a couple of colleagues who specialize in working with crystals). One of the crystals that came up was black tourmaline, which is great for boundaries, grounding and protection.

Then, a couple of days ago, I was absolutely delighted to find this beautiful black tourmaline bracelet with a Herkimer diamond at Sandi Lane  Fine Art’s Etsy Shop.

I love it!

It’s particularly perfect because I have a special affinity to Herkimer diamonds – I have always found that herkimer diamonds have spoke to me, and used to collect them. I gifted a Herkimer diamond to my mom and to this day, she still wears it.

I have it ordered and can’t wait to wear it!

You can read more about black tourmaline and herkimer diamonds below.

“Black tourmaline, also known as schorl, is associated with the root or base chakra, and is excellent for grounding excess energy. It is a well known as a purifying stone that deflects and transforms negative energy, and thus is very protective. It can transform and remove negativity from an individual or an environment. It is often used as an aura cleanser, and can help one attain higher levels of awareness. Black tourmaline is also used for repelling and protecting one from black magick, and is often said to return the negative spell to the sender. Some claim that black tourmaline deflects all kinds of energy; it is possible that the black tourmaline’s effect of grounding excess energy gives this impression. Black tourmaline has also been used to deflect radiation energy from tv’s and computer monitors. Emotionally, black tourmaline is excellent for dispelling fears, obsessions, and neuroses, bringing emotional stability. Physically, black tourmaline is said in crystal healing to strengthen the immune system, help with heart disease, arthritis, and gout.

Herkimer diamond can be considered a potent balancing stone for getting our physical and emotional energies in proper order. It should be used with care, especially if you are not adapted to its high vibrations. Given that this is one of the most powerful gemstones for releasing and discharging the energy blockages within our auric energy field, it is no surprise that Herkimer diamond is frequently used in crystal layouts and/or for placing on energy centers – chakras. Just like quartz crystal, when combined with other semi precious and precious gemstones, it can considerably increase their performance.”

Life is so cyclical because one of my very first blog posts on this blog five years ago discussed considering placing crystals (amethyst and rose quartz)  in our sensitive child’s room to help his sleep and his healing.
